Show (Misemono) and Music Entertainment

Misemono (show performances) in the narrow sense are to make money by showing and demonstrating something of curiosity at annual festivals of shrines and temples and show stands and theaters, but the misemono in folkloric arts refers to anything showing special arts, offered often for free, such as juggling and magic shows, the spider dance, acrobatics, sumo wrestling, and music entertainment. There used to be what was called the Eight-People Show where one person played eight musical instruments at the same time. Some folkloric shows such as sumo wrestling are performed as acts of augury or prayers for good harvests, and few of them are for commercial purposes.
