The Mizuokano Lion Dance belongs to the Honkai School of lion dance. As there is a copy of a back screen of 1857, we can surmise that it had been practiced here since sometime before that date. It is said that the bangaku-lion dance of Arasawa was first brought to Iseiji and then to Mizuoka. The dance of Iseiji and that of Mizuokano are considered brothers. Some dances are danced with the mask and some others without it.
