Nakazawa Bangaku, which belongs to the school of Honkai Bangaku, has been performed at Obon every summer. It was started in 1785 as a prayer for better harvests after a serious famine hit the region in 1783. It was initially learned from the shishimai-bangaku of Momoyake, but the dance numbers and music have since become somewhat different.
