After the Great Famine of Tenmei in 1783 devastated Yashiki Village, the villagers introduced Honkai shishimai and bangaku from Arasawa Village (in the former Yashima Town), which they learned and offered to the gods in the hope of a good harvest of all crops and repulsion of diseases.
