Kamagadai Bangaku belongs to the school of Honkai Bangaku, which was brought to the communities around Mt. Chokai by the priest Honkai, a shugen (Buddhist ascetic) of the local temple from the late 16th to the early 17th century. The temple was affiliated with Sampō-in in Kyoto in the Daigo Temple group.
