As the name of the district, Motoki or ‘the ancient Location of a castle,’ suggests, this district is near the ancient castle of Nishimonai, which was the main castle of the Onodera Family. After the Onodera family were defeated and the castle destroyed, local residents danced a Bon dance to appease the spirits of the Onedera family, which has become a tradition here. This Bon dance is said to be the prototype of the Nishimonai Bon Dance.
