The origin of this kagura goes back to the time of the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600. A samurai on the losing Toyotomi side survived the battle and fled northward to find a refuge in this place. He was with his wife and truly grateful for the warm reception by the villagers and wanted to show his gratitude by teaching them the kagura dance of Higo Province, where he was originally from.
